Nudie Foodies Sounds Adventure

After months of planning, Kay Hannam and Brian Williams welcomed 50 ‘nudie foodies’ to Wai-natur Naturist Park in the South Island of New Zealand for the annual Nudie Foodies Sounds Adventure.

By early evening the park was full with visitors from across Australia, UK and around New Zealand; several visiting the sunny Marlborough region for the first time. The regional weather forecast predicting even higher temperatures with a glorious Saturday anticipated on board MV Odyssea, a 20 metre power ‘cat’; perfect for cruising naked in the crystal clear waterways of the Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds.

After ten minutes of leaving Havelock Marina the kit was off and hats and sunscreen on; visitors understandably in awe of the unfolding panorama before them. They were quietly amused when docking at Jacobs Bay an hour later as the private launch following anchored off the buoy 200 metres offshore. It took the ‘intruders’ around an hour to figure out that the fifty plus “nudies” had settled in for an extended lunch and swim before moving on.

However the ‘nudies’ were not amused by the swarm of wasps aroused by the aroma of opened lunchboxes. A quick exit by those who preferred to lounge on board the launch left the remainder to deal with the quiet and solitude of this beautiful deep water cove on shore; delighted shrieks as the hardy ones braved the ‘fresh’ temperature of the sea; others exploring picturesque walking tracks in the native forest and bush ‘au naturel’.

Three sharp blasts and a quick head count before we were cruising again, exploring the glorious maze of deep coves and waterways of Pelorus Sound. Imagine diving off the back of the launch into the deepest of all azure blue water, followed by a wonderful floating sensation compared to swimming in the Med’ (though a tad different temperature).

Nearing the town of Havelock, the clothes were reluctantly put back on before the return drive to Wai-natur and the promise of a swim in the heated swimming pool and aperitif before dinner – a taste sensation! Hors d’oeuvres of Shrimp & Scallop Vol-au-vent and Crostini with Salmon w/Chive Cream Cheese, preceded Spiced Summer Soup served in a Shot Glass; main course of Chargrilled Angus Sirloin with garlic butter glaze or Chicken Breast, Flame Grilled with Ginger & Honey Glaze, served with Pumpkin & Feta Salad and Fresh Green Salad; a choice of Traditional French Berry Tartlet or Chocolate Brownie served with Lemon Cream capped off an outstanding dinner prepared by the ‘Nudie Foodie Chef du Cuisine’ Pete Whalan and his team.

This was the third ‘Nudie Foodie Sounds Adventure’. You can be sure it won’t be the last with planning for the event in February 2011 already underway.
