Bay to Breakers is an annual footrace which takes place in San Francisco, California. The race starts at the northeast end of the downtown area close to San Francisco Bay to near where the Breakers crash on the near pacific coast. The event takes place on the third Sunday in May, is 7.46 miles (12 kilometers) long, and is well-known for many participants engaging in varying degrees of nudity.

The naked contingent take part is what has become known as Bare to Breakers and wear only sneakers and the distinctive yellow hats.

"Everybody should run through the streets naked at least once.
If you can do that, chances are you can have a lot of fun in
other areas of your life."

"If you think you can, you're right.
If you think you can't, you're right."

"If you want to be free, there is but one way; it is to guarantee an equally full measure of liberty to all your neighbors. There is no other."
Carl Schurz
